My brother Aidan is age 6- the years where the parents start to expect the kid to start being mature, and the kid is definately not ready yet.
Aidan wanted to watch a particular movie that wasn't appropriate for him. He wanted to "be like his older brother", Andrew, and be able to see movies like that.
When my parents told him no, Aidan cried and screamed. He said a lot of stuff he didn't mean, a lot of stuff that got him in trouble. He kept asking and asking, even though he had no chance of being able to watch this movie.
I thought he was being childish and immature, and wondered how he couldn't see that this wasn't changing anything and seeing that movie wasn't good for him.
Then suddenly I realized that this story wasn't much different than the lives of every teenager.
God says a lot of stuff in the bible that we can't do. And even though we know we can't, we plead with God, we ask why he told us not to do this, we say it won't do any harm, when really he's protecting us from something that isn't good for us.
Hope this gave you a new perspective on things. Feel free to comment.
